A Bit About Me

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Afif Abd Halim has been actively involved in photography and photojournalism since 2008 and has covered in a wide range from news, sports, politics, and business to education, healthcare, and lifestyle. He has been a stringer for the international agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) as a photographer since 2010 and is currently a full-time photojournalist with The Malaysian Insight.

As a photojournalist with over ten years of experience, his major portfolio projects include Hari Ini Dalam (my) Sejarah / Today in (my) History: Eleven Malaysian photographers telling our collective story through glimpses of own own unique visual experiences (2015); Bah: A Fundraising Photography Exhibition for Pantai Timur Post-Flood Relief (2015), Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 Tribute Photo Exhibition (2014), and Bridging The Distance: Making Us Stronger Pandemic Exhibition (2020), and Pemulihan: Pembaharuan / Recovery: Renewal Art Exhibition (2021).

Many of Afif Abd Halim's photographs have been published in international media including CNN, Forbes, The Guardian, and National Geographic.

Afif Abd Halim's extensive experience has honored him with the "Magnum Photos Scholarship for Working Photographer workshop with Emin Özmen and Cloé Kerhoas", as well as U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program: "A Global Moment in Time: Photojournalists Document Challenges and Opportunities in the COVID Era".
